My experience with the GWC 2023 SIP Program: Developing User Experiences and Boosting Creativity

July 28, 2023

The summer of 2023 was an exceptional chapter in my life as I participated in the Girls Who Code (GWC) 2023 Summer Immersion Program (SIP). The conclusion of these revolutionary weeks has given me two very beneficial skills: command of p5.js and a basic understanding of UX/UI design. Also, this program allowed me to further use my communication and presenting skills during these intense two weeks.

But before I go into my experience I would like to say that Girls Who Code is simply incredible. It is a group that acknowledges the potential and genius of young women in the IT field. It is extremely encouraging to see how dedicated they are to providing a welcoming and nurturing atmosphere where girls can learn, develop, and flourish. Girls Who Code are changing the digital landscape by empowering the next generation of women in technology by giving them access to high-quality education, mentorship, and practical experiences. Girls Who Code promotes confidence, leadership, and a feeling of community in addition to teaching computer science, making sure that young women's views and abilities are not only heard but also valued. Their dedication to eliminating the gender gap in technology is very impressive, and they have a significant influence on creating a future that is more promising, diverse, and creative for all of us. Girls Who Code deserves recognition for being activists for change, defenders of equity, and promoters of a more diverse digital industry.

The GWC SIP program I participated in provided a thorough overview of p5.js, a powerful framework for innovative coding. This experience not only improved my coding skills but also made me more aware of the artistic nature of coding. The joy of seeing code come to life was exhilarating and sparked my passion for coding in ways I never imagined.

The program went beyond coding to include UX/UI design, giving students a thorough grasp of how people engage with technology. My viewpoint has been widened by the blending of coding and design, making me a more adaptable and valuable IT individual.

One of the most satisfying components of the SIP program was seeing my newly gained talents come together. I started working on projects that integrated aesthetics and functionality using p5.js and UX/UI design. I created interactive programs with resonant user experiences in addition to visually stunning interfaces. This combined approach not only increased my skill set but also enhanced my respect for the connection between programming and design.

The final project display for the GWC SIP program was when I presented my creative works in front of peers and business experts. This instance demonstrated my growing skills in p5.js and UX/UI design. It signified a new level of professional confidence for me to be able to explain the intricate details of my work, from design decisions to code details. This event emphasizes the value of both technical skills and the effectiveness of great communication in the IT world.

The conclusion of the GWC 2023 SIP program does not mark the end of the journey; rather, it marks the start of a new one.  In order to contribute to a world that is driven by innovation and user-focused solutions, this path has given me the ability to bridge the gap between aesthetic design and technological execution.
